As a child of the 80’s, my parents are a great barometer to some of the truly great weed smoking songs of the 60’s and 70’s. When I was younger, I really never had much interest in pot, and I never talked about it with my parents. However, once my illness took hold and I discovered that marijuana is a great way to treat disease, I became more interested in it and the culture that goes along with it.

Music plays a big role in that culture. It is a known fact. Look up and read about what went on at the original Woodstock, or any big event during the 60’s and 70’s and you will likely see that marijuana and music go together like butter and toast. This marriage is long lasting and the two will be related until either marijuana or music leave our planet (hint: not anytime soon).

With that being said, I thought I would compile a list of some of my favorite music to chill out to while I ingest a health amount of marijuana.

My favorite smokin’ bands are:

  • Foo Fighters: I have to lead off with possibly my favorite band of all time. These guys can go hard, and they can also strike it down with smooth and mellow acoustic tones. Depending on the mood I am in when I smoke, I can never go wrong with Dave Grohl and his cadre of rockers. Recommended songs: Learn to Fly, The Pretender, My Hero
  • Led Zeppelin: These guys are the forefathers of heavy rock. Mixed with a bluesy sound, Jimmy Page, Jon Paul Jones, Robert Plant and John Bonham brought the rock in truckloads. I find that when I am high I can’t get enough of some of their trippier stuff. Great music. Recommended songs: Kashmir, Ramble On, Stairway To Heaven
  • Red Hot Chili Peppers: Bringing the funk, the Chili Peppers have been a rock staple since the early 90’s for me. When I am high, I can almost feel Flea’s bass hitting the notes, and I rock into my couch or bed. This music definitely enhances my effects and is not too overpowering. Recommended songs: Suck My Kiss, Aeroplane, Californication
  • Jim Croce: When feeling introspective, Jim Croce’s music really seems to tug at my heart strings. His songs really seem to get to me when I am high, and I often shed a tear when I hear them. It is a damn shame that he passed away in a plane crash 30 years ago. Recommended songs: Time In A Bottle, Operator, I’ll Have To Say I Love You In A Song

Those are a few of the many bands I enjoy jamming to when I am medicating with cannabis. I am sure that you think I missed a few, and I would love to hear what bands you listen to when smoking. Leave your comments and suggestions in the comments section below.
